2024 Special Achievement Winners
Brian Eno
Lovie Lifetime AchievementOh, wouldn't it be love-eh-ly.
—Brian Eno
The Lovie Awards is honoured to present Brian Eno with the Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his outsized contributions and technological experimentation in the realms of music, art, and environmental activism.
For his experimentation at the forefront of generative art, stretching from 1975’s "Discreet Music", to the mutating soundtrack of the game "Spore" and now to the present moment in 2024, as the subject of the first generative feature film, "Eno," directed by Gary Hustwit. With trademark innovation, each viewing of "Eno" offers a unique experience thanks to the Brain One software, developed with digital artist Brendan Dawes, the film offers the viewer 52 quintillion possible versions. We would like to recognise an approach which showcases an ethical use case for AI in entertainment and film, using data and material that is entirely owned, not trained on other people’s documentaries, to ensure integrity and originality.
In 2024, Eno's influence also extended into social and political spheres with the founding of the Hard Art collective. The group unites a diverse array of artists, activists, and scientists—including Jeremy Deller, Cornelia Parker, Es Devlin, writer Jay Griffiths, and Lovie Awards judge Jon Ronson—to address urgent global and democratic issues. Their initiatives, such as the Fête of Britain and influential manifestos, highlight a belief in collaborative action to drive progress. Eno’s choice to release the work on Metalabel underscores a commitment to ethicality and collaboration in creativity, as well as experimentation with emerging platforms.
In further recognition of his impact on global society via the internet and technology, we would be honoured to recognise Eno’s partnership with EarthPercent, directing funds from the online music industry towards effective climate charities like ClientEarth and Earth Justice, leveraging Eno's artistic influence, and massive scale collective action, to support climate advocacy.
Through his astounding and pioneering efforts in art, technology, and activism, Brian Eno’s work has set new standards and continues to inspire across multiple fields. The Lovie Awards is proud to honour Brian Eno with a Lifetime Achievement for his exceptional work that will leave a lasting impact on the internet’s cultural and technological landscape.

Paola Cortellesi
Lovie Film & Video Person of the YearI have no words to thank you.
—Paola Cortellesi
The Lovie Awards is excited to honour Paola Cortellesi with the prestigious 2024 Lovie Film & Video Person of the Year award, recognizing her profound impact on European internet culture and digital streaming cinematic explorations that transcend geographical boundaries, elevating powerful narratives in pursuit of equality and empathy within European society.
Her directorial debut "There's Still Tomorrow" (C'è Ancora Domani) became a 2023 cinematic sensation, swiftly entering the Top 10 across streaming platforms like Sky, Now TV, and Netflix. At the Italian box office, it surpassed both "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer," making it the highest-grossing film of 2023 and the most successful ever directed by an Italian woman.
Paola Cortellesi's directorial debut "There's Still Tomorrow" (C'è Ancora Domani) not only captivated audiences but also struck a profound chord in Italian society, resonating deeply with contemporary issues. The film's powerful narrative sparked shockwaves across the internet as it premiered in 2023. In a year where 120 women were tragically murdered in Italy, the film's exploration of themes like femicide and societal violence became eerily timely. Its release coincided with heightened public awareness and discussions surrounding these pressing issues, culminating in widespread protests following the tragic death of 22-year-old Giulia Cecchettin, allegedly at the hands of her ex-boyfriend.
The film's impact extended beyond traditional cinema audiences, permeating online platforms and social media discussions. In July 2023, a controversial legal ruling in Rome further fueled public outcry, prompting a social media movement around "palpata breve" - a brief groping incident that garnered attention on Instagram and TikTok with the #10secondi hashtag. Cortellesi's poignant portrayal of societal challenges not only mirrored but also amplified the zeitgeist, making "There's Still Tomorrow" a powerful catalyst for social reflection and change in Italy.
For her elevation of critical social themes, that embody the spirit of creativity and social consciousness that The Lovie Awards celebrates and her visionary use of digital platforms to elevate social commentary and connect with audiences on a global scale, The Lovie Awards is honoured to award Paola Cortellesi with the 2024 Lovie Film & Video Person of the Year Award.

Wikiesfera
Lovie Special AchievementFeminists in Wikipedia drive knowledge equity worldwide.
—Wikiesfera
The Lovie Awards is honoured to present Spain's Wikiesfera with a Lovie Special Achievement Award for their exceptional community that enhances the global representation of women in history and digital archives. Since its founding in 2015 by Patricia Horrillo, Wikiesfera has leveraged its vibrant network to address significant gaps in Wikipedia's coverage of women's contributions.
With initiatives spanning Spain, Ecuador, and Portugal, Wikiesfera has mobilized over 2,000 participants who have collaboratively contributed to approximately 2,000 articles, focusing on biographies of women and women's health. The community includes about 50 permanent active editors and dozens more who participate sporadically, having engaged in over 320 face-to-face meetings and about 110 virtual meetings, during which more than 850 Wikipedians have received training.
Their efforts are crucial for the Spanish Wikipedia, which, despite being one of the largest language editions globally, still reflects considerable disparities in women’s representation. Wikiesfera’s collaborative approach fosters an engaging environment where participants contribute to preserving and amplifying women's presence in digital archives, challenging traditional historical biases.
The work of Wikiesfera demonstrates the power of community-driven activism in reshaping digital narratives. Their dedication and innovative use of the internet to address these critical issues make them a deserving recipient of a Lovie Special Achievement Award.
